Preparing PERSPEX® for making a PERSPEX® painting: Degrease the PERSPEX® canvas using lukewarm soapy water, an anti-static cleaner and a soft, lint-free cloth. Rinse the sheet well with lukewarm water. Check that the plastic sheet is free of dirt or you might scratch it when drying. Dry the PERSPEX® canvas with a soft tea towel.

I had a big frame where the back panel had got damaged, but the frame & perspex were fine, so I tried some peelable glass paint and made this design on the perspex. I like the way it changes with the background and the light! You can see it looks quite different in this second picture.

Start With The Right Paint, Dispense With the Primer. Primer is usually a good idea (especially important for spraying metal), however in the case of clear plastic, acrylic, or glass, if you can complete the task in a single coat it is better. The problem with more than one coat is allowing paint to dry without immediately removing the tape.

The plexiglass should be washed with fresh water and dried thoroughly with a soft cloth. We recommend waiting at least an hour, and preferably two, for the surface to dry. Wet surfaces should never be painted over. 3. Put on the Primer. As soon as the surface is dry to the touch, you can apply the primer.

Similar to plastic and glass our main concern while painting perspex is to make sure the paint sticks - we must clean, degrease the plastic sheet and dry it. Perspex themselves say that the best paints for painting on perspex are acrylics and oils. Same as for wood or other surfaces, you can lightly sand the perspex with a 220-grit sandpaper.
